The client wanted a freestanding structure behind the house to serve as a gathering space and outdoor kitchen. We insulated the underside of the roof to help with the Texas summer heat, we ran electric for the outdoor kitchen appliances (to be installed in the near future), and we poured a massive concrete bar in the center of the structure. When you have guests or large groups of people over to your home, people tend to gather around the bar or kitchen island. Many outdoor kitchens are built with the only permanent structures being those focused on cooking or enclosing the space. This leaves the gathering space to be determined by outdoor furniture. This unique project centered around the bar, which offers an incredible amount of gathering space for up to 20 people.
