A complete backyard transformation in Highland Village, Texas. This project replaced an aging wood deck with a custom hardscape design featuring concrete pavers, natural stone retaining walls, Lueders limestone steps, and decomposed granite gathering areas – creating a functional, multi-level outdoor space built for entertaining and everyday use.
This Highland Village backyard started with an aging wood deck and limited usable outdoor space. The goal was to completely rework the yard into a functional, low-maintenance entertaining area that flowed naturally with the home’s existing architecture.
We began by demolishing the original wood deck and regrading the yard to create multiple usable levels. New stone retaining walls were built using a flagstone aesthetic to match the home’s existing patio, giving the entire backyard a cohesive look.
The former deck area was converted into a concrete paver patio, with black granite stone used as infill between pavers to add contrast and improve drainage. Adjacent to that, we created a decomposed granite seating area designed for a future fire pit and casual gathering space.
Custom Lueder steps connect each level of the yard, providing clean transitions between the patio, seating areas, and upper lawn. The existing slab patio was also faced with natural stone to visually tie everything together.
The end result is a fully rebuilt outdoor living space with defined entertaining zones, durable materials, and a layout that makes the backyard feel larger, more functional, and easier to enjoy year-round.
